Sheltered Housing
What is Sheltered Housing?
Sheltered Housing is an integral part of the Supporting People Programme which was first launched on 1st April 2003, and is for anyone who needs support to enable them to live more independently. People who have, for example, difficulty coping because of old age or been homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless.
Who is the service for?
The service is for vulnerable single people or couples aged 55+. It works primarily with people of Jewish faith, culture and ethnicity but welcomes other faiths also.
How does it help?
By providing accommodation and warden support on site, the service offers support in areas such as setting up and maintaining a home, claiming benefits and developing domestic skills. Support is provided to many different sorts of vulnerable people by helping them to maintain their own tenancies, providing support to people leaving hospital and enabling people move to independent living.
How does it work?
Local Councils administer the Supporting People programme and the Government provides a grant, which the Council must use to 'commission' and fund this service. The Supporting People team do not run the services themselves but are an important link to the Association.
Our Properties

The Association's only non warden-controlled CAT 1 sheltered housing scheme is located in Holland Road next to Carmel Court. This scheme was built in 1990 and has 8 one-bedroom flats on two floors. Special Needs
Special needs have been addressed in partnership with Outreach Community and Residential Services who provide the management function of our two shared housing projects for young adults with learning disabilities. We opened the first shared house at 162 Bury Old Road, Higher Crumpsall in 1984 and this large Victorian end-terrace house, which includes a self contained flat, has been a most successful project.
November 1995 saw the handover of 86 Meadehill Road, Prestwich, a substantial modern detached house, providing shared housing for 5 people with learning disabilities which is also managed by Outreach Community and Residential Services for the Association.
